GOAL: Apply a story to a poster series using semiotics with song lyrics.
Semiotics delves into the exploration of signs, symbols, and how they are employed or understood. For this project, I was tasked with crafting a series of posters, with each one symbolizing a distinct type of semiotics while simultaneously narrating a coherent story across the sequence.
For this project, I decided to use the song lyrics "Someday yeah, we'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun" from The Five Stairsteps' song "O-O-H Child." Upon hearing these lyrics, I contemplated various potential interpretations but ultimately centered on the notion that the quote symbolizes growth and renewal following challenging experiences.
The narrative that profoundly influenced my final creation was about a military individual who lost a leg during combat and later achieved the remarkable feat of running a marathon with a prosthetic limb. This story encapsulated themes of resilience and overcoming adversity, emphasizing the triumph of both humans and animals who have faced the challenge of losing a limb. My final product depicted a military dog that had lost its front paw in battle and was ultimately honored with a medal for its heroic deeds.
